A CULTURAL MOSAIC
This project continues from The Spirits and Reminiscence. Embarking further into research of the site context of Geylang Serai, an intervention is designed for the Malay community. A study into the Malay rituals guides the concept thinking of the proposed design.
THE PROCESS
MATERIAL & ACTIVITY:
A collage to propose the use of material in the intervention as well as the activities that includes the idea of sharing knowledge through different means.
ZONING:
The blue zone is the 'anjung' which is also the entrance or porch of a Malay traditional house. The green zone is the 'serambi' and 'rumah ibu' which are the reception area and main house. The last zone, the purple zone is the 'dapur', which translates to the kitchen where it was said to be a space for the ladies.

THE IDEATION
The proposed intervention is a learning space that allows a glimpse of Malayness to both the Malays and non-Malays. With an integrated library that curates books about the Malay identity and the Malay culture, it serves as a useful resource for researchers that studies the Malays. It also open opportunities for the existing elderly on site to find a space of comfort and share their experience to younger generations.
